Permission denied on a usual page

Symptom

You try to open a page or take an action you previously could and get "Permission denied" or a Not found page.

Cause

  • Your role has been changed by an administrator.
  • The permission has been removed from your role.
  • Your access scope has been narrowed so the record is now outside your scope.
  • The record has been archived and your role does not include reading archived records.

Fix

    1. Check your role under Profile → Role.
    2. Check your access scope under Profile → Access.
    3. Ask an administrator if the record has been archived.
    4. If the change was unintended, an administrator can restore your previous permissions.

The audit log records every role and scope change, so the cause can always be traced.

Prevent it next time

  • Treat role changes as a coordinated team decision rather than an ad-hoc tweak.
  • Communicate changes to affected users.
