SMS messaging

SMS support is Coming soon. The design we are building to is described below.

What SMS will be used for

SMS is a fallback channel for messages that need to land regardless of email habits:

  • Urgent building safety alerts (lift breakdown, water shutdown).
  • Payment reminders for residents who do not respond to email.
  • Appointment confirmations (contractor visit tomorrow).
  • Two-factor authentication codes for users who prefer SMS over email.

PropLink will not send marketing SMS. Anything sent is transactional.

How SMS will be configured

    1. Open Settings → Communications → SMS.
    2. Connect a sender number (we will provide options through our SMS provider).
    3. Pick which notification types should fall back to SMS when email fails or when marked urgent.
    4. Save.

Residents opt in to SMS through ResidencePort under their notification preferences.

SMS templates

Like email templates, SMS templates have merge fields and versioning. The 160-character limit forces concise wording. PropLink shows the live character count in the editor.

SMS in the audit trail

Sent SMS is logged in the communications log alongside email and other channels. Every send has a delivery status (sent, delivered, failed) reported by the provider.

Why it is not live yet

We are confirming our SMS provider arrangement and the cost model, then enabling SMS as a paid add-on for organisations that need it. Most agents do not need it for day-to-day operations and we did not want to bundle it into the base licence.
